D1 South Quad at Braintree

Barnstable competed against fellow D1 South teams Braintree, Brockton, and Mansfield today at Braintree High School. With many RedHawks out due to illness, there were a lot of holes in the line-up, but they managed to hold off Mansfield to finish 1-2 on the day. Highlights came from Brandon Shull (3 pins), Josh Stanley (1 pin, 2 decision wins), and Ben Davis (2 pins)

Barnstable 21- Brockton 36

Individual winners for the first meet were: Marco Simonelli (forfeit at 106), Alex Fontaine (forfeit at 120), Brandon Shull (pin at 132), and Josh Stanley (6-0 decision win at 152). Greg Richard won the only jv match of the round by pinning his opponent.

Barnstable 18- Braintree 42

Individual winners included: Brandon Shull (pin at 132), Josh Stanley (pin at 152), Ben Davis (pin at 160)

Barnstable 44- Mansfield 18

Individual winners included: Greg Richard (first varsity pin at 120), Sophia Simonelli (forfeit at 126), Brandon Shull (pin at 132), Sam Mulkeen-Perry (forfeit at 145),  Josh Stanley (15-2 major decision win at 152), Ben Davis (pin at 160), Adam Forrester (forfeit at 170)

Next week, Barnstable will travel to Nauset on 12/22 for a dual meet and Marshfield on 12/23 for a super quad.

Barnstable places fifth at the Sharon Lombardo Tournament

The Barnstable Red Hawks went 2-2 at the first event of the season, the Sharon Lombardo team tournament. The tournament, held at Mount Hope High School featured five teams from Rhode Island and three from Massachusetts. Barnstable face Hope Hihg School first, and dropped the contest 54-30. Winners from Barnstable included Marco Simonelli (pin at 106), Nate Ryan (pin at 113), Alex Fontaine (pin at 120), and captain Josh Stanley (pin at 152. Round 2 Barnstable defeated Pilgrim High School 39-28. Nate Ryan bumped up a weight class and had a pin at 126. Alex Fontaine (126), Josh Stanley (152), and Ben Davis (160) all won by pin. Marco Simonelli won by decision in a "hard fought" match according to Coach Holubesko. Barnstable lost to Frankin 39-18, with Fontaine and Stanley pinning their opponents. In the last round of the tournament, Barnstable came back to defeat Johnston 36-23. Alex Fontaine (120), Brandon Shull (132), Jackson Chesbro (145), and Josh Stanley (152) all won by pin, with Ben Davis turning in an additional win. Sophia Simonelli and Greg Richard were each awarded a forfeit win during the course of the day. Josh Stanley went 4-0, with all wins by pin. Alex Fontaine ended the day 3-1, and Marco Simonelli and Nate Ryan turned in two wins each. According to Coach Holubesko, "Overall, we showed a lot of grit and determination. We faced some highly skilled wrestlers and didn’t back down." Barnstable's next event is a home meet on 12/15 against Durfee. Wrestling starts at 7:00 and spectators are welcome.

Welcome to the 2021-2022 Season!

Welcome back! It has been a long 22 months since the team wrestled last! You'll notice a lot of changes since the 2019-2020 season. First, welcome to our new coaches: head coach Mike Holubesko and assistant coach Ben Potts! We are excited to have them lead the team this season. Secondly, Barnstable's mascot has changed, so we are now called the Red Hawks!
Tomorrow, the team will travel to Mount Hope High School to participate in the Sharon Lombardo Tournament. The competition will likely be pretty fierce! If you would like to watch the live stream, you can purchase an eticket at the website listed below. The tournament starts at 10:00.
Finally, congratulations to the 2021-2022 team captains, Josh Stanley and Jackson Chesbro.
